Their great reedy canes and palmy foliage make for large magnificent plants even if they never bloomed. They, however, yield blooms all summer long for long lasting curb appeal and appear most dramatic when grouped in numbers. They are deer resistant and are fast growers with large flowers. Canna The President, a favorite that everyone knows and loves for its tall stature, dark green foliage, and bold flamboyantly colored scarlet flowers. Where not hardy plant outdoors in early summer, couple inches deep setting the rhizome in the hole, ‘eyes’ (shoots) up. Cannas do best with a good supply of water. As flowers fade, deadhead to promote continued flowering. They like moist conditions.
