Description
HARDINESS ZONE.5-9 GROW.Sow seeds indoors in a flat with a lid. Keep the soil in the flat lightly moist and place the flat in a warm area at least 60 degrees F. (16 C.). The baby sprouts will grow slowly and you will not have a Miscanthus maiden grass big enough to plant outside for at least a year. WHEN TO PLANT.Spring or fall TALL.Easily grows in a lovely, dense fountain-like clump, up to 5-6 ft. tall (150-180 cm) and 3-4 ft. wide (90-120 cm). USE.Very versatile, it can be used as a graceful accent plant in the garden, massed to create screens or hedges, planted in borders, coastal gardens, city gardens, cottage gardens or prairie plantings. One of the most popular variety of Chinese Silver Grasses, Miscanthus sinensis is a spectacular ornamental grass grown for its abundant, purple-flushed, flower plumes on display in late summer. They delicately change to silver as they mature and provide excellent winter interest. They rise gracefully, well above an elegant foliage of narrow, arching, green leaves with white midribs. A fabulous focal point in the garden! Provide plenty of growing space. Silberfeder silver feather grass can reach mature heights of 7 to 8 feet (2 to 2.5 m.), and widths of 4 to 6 feet (1 to 2 m.). Silver feather grass performs best in a sunny spot. This versatile plant is adaptable to most well-drained soil types, and even tolerates clay, sand, and chalk. Silberfeder grass withstands occasional wetness, but not soggy, soil. It is drought-tolerant once established. Cut silver feather grass back in spring, just before new growth appears. Spring is also the best time to divide a crowded grass plant, or if you want to propagate new plants. The plant should be divided any time it becomes too large or dies out in the center. Fertilize your silver feather grass plant in spring, using a balanced fertilizer. However, dont fertilize the first spring when the roots are settling in.
