Continuing its tradition of celebrating the U.S. Flag. these stamps feature artwork depicting three flags arranged in a circular formation. reminiscent of the 50 flags surrounding the Washington Monument. The stamp design was created from three photographs of the same flag taken seconds apart. which were combined into a single composition. Designed by Laura Stutzman. with art direction by Ethel Kessler. the flags are shown billowing in the wind from a low-angle perspective. evoking a sense of reverence and honor.
