Description
The Golden Oakland is a handsome evergreen Holly that has distinctive variegated foliage that is golden-yellow and glossy green. Golden Oakland has an upright growth habit that is great to use as an accent hedge mass planting privacy planting and will also look great in containers. When planting this Holly select a location that receives full sun to partial shade dig the hole twice as wide as the pot and mix rich garden soil in with your native soil then leave the top of the root balla half inch above the ground level when filling the hole with soil. Use a slow-release granular fertilizer in spring and water regularly.
- First, determine your planting location. Somewhere that provides at least 4-5 hours of sun.
- Next, dig a hole that is about three times as wide as the root ball of your plant.
- The hole should be deep enough that the top of your plant’s root ball is even with or slightly above the native ground around it.
- Mix the native soil that you removed from the hole with some good quality garden soil or composted manure.
- Fill the hole with the soil mixture.
- Layer 3-4 inches of mulch around the base of your plant to help the soil retain moisture.
- Lastly, water your new planting deeply to hydrate the plant and settle the soil/mulch.
