Norlan worked with master distiller, Jim McEwan, to design these items, combining 30 years of design knowledge and industry-leading whisky expertise. In essence, they have created a vessel that captures the complex flavours and aromatics, and then delivers them to the senses like never before. Each vestibule features a double-walled design that has been crafted using a separate two-part hand-blown mold technique. This design process creates a perfect interior to bring out the flavour and the aroma without sacrificing a stylish silhouette. A unique effect of the double-walled design is the added intensity of colour, which is further carried up into the rim of the glass. Specially designed protrusions inside the glass create an almost standing wave like shape when the whisky is swirled around. This increases the surface to air ratio and rate of oxidation. This process considerably reduces the amount of ethanol from the aeration process, allowing the whisky aromatics to stand true. Another notable performance aspect of the of the interior wall is that of the height and diameter of the rim. This focuses the aromatics to the nose while simultaneously diffusing the ethanol away from the face ÿ dramatically improving the taste of the whisky. The rim or lip of the glass has been designed with a natural concave to fit the mouth perfectly. A faceted base has been integrated into the design to allow the user hold the glass without getting fingerprints on the bowl.
